The Ranch Style Architecture, sometimes recognized as the American Ranch, California Ranch, Rambler or Rancher is a United States architectural style. The ranch-style house is recognized for its long, close-to-the-ground profile, and wide open layout. Over time, the ranch house style fused Modernist ideas and styles with notions of the American Western period of wide open spaces to create a relaxed casual modern rambling estate lifestyle.
While the original style of the ranch was very casual and basic in design, starting around the early 1960s, many ranch-style houses built in the United States Sun Belt were increasingly built with more dramatic structural designs and features like varying roof lines, high cathedral ceilings, sunken living rooms, and extensive landscaping and grounds.
